Poetry 1

An empty building
It's the middle of the day
Most of it's occupants are at work today
A barking dog
A scurrying cat
A rotten window
A sill that's turned to dust
Things made of logs
Things made of iron
Both eventually rust
Rust or rot is the same
As dust they both became

April 4, 2022 So where am I?

An early note here; unless something more exciting happens I am going to try and keep personal posts to the first Monday of each month.  Along with that I have moved my posting day to Monday as it seems posts on Monday get more traction than those on Saturday.

So where am I?  Well if I wanted a dad joke "Right here," but that's kind of obvious.

I now have a job...or more precisely my dead-name has a new job.  To many this would seem to be good news and in ways it is.

  • It allows my soon to be ex to move out.
  • It allows me to support myself.
  • It makes more money than my last position by $7k a year.
  • Monday through Friday with some on calls
  • It will leave money to do work on the house and to get the shop up and running.
  • It will give me breathing room to work on either my accounting or HR certs--maybe both?  From there I'll begin work on my Bachelors in Business Management.
  • It gives me the title Properties Maintenance Manager
  • It will give me the funds to legally be rid of my dead name--even my mom does not use that name anymore

Now if it sounds like I am not completely thrilled, you're correct.

  • It means working as my dead name so until I get a cert that allows me to move on or my degree I am back to acting like someone I am not eight hours a day.
  • Over-all it feels like a defeat to me and in most ways I'm kind of numb inside.
  • It took me most of a year in a time of "unprecedented economic growth" (-Joe Biden) to find a job and in the end I had to return to a field of work I'd left behind nearly four years ago and swore I'd never do for a living again.
  • The job requires using my own vehicle to go between properties
  • Using my own tools
  • I have already found a 20 year old Ford Ranger (there goes a couple of checks) to use as opposed to wearing out my $40,000 SUV--one owner and was owned by a relative who no longer drives.
  • It's a working manager position and with my arthritis I hope that isn't an issue
  • It's a new position and the owner has been dealing with it...badly
  • An addition since originally writing this; the final offer letter came through at 19:15 Sunday local time for a job that starts at 09:00 Monday and the official letter says Maintenance Supervisor not Manager *insert loads of profane language here*

So where does that put the shop?

  • Well the donation monies are still in stasis and as I said I'll have some money of my own to invest as well
  • Due to a quirk in the building codes I will be rebuilding the original building
  • It actually does have a foundation it's just made of concrete blocks
  • I'll be adding an extra course of blocks to the original to raise the wood walls eight inches (20 cm) above the surrounding yard
  • With the walls raised and back in place I'll probably have a new four inch (10 cm) thick slab poured over the existing slab that should bring me to a six to eight inch (15 to 20 cm) thick floor which is ideal for equipment to be mounted down.
  • The goal is to have the building under roof by Winter

The Rose Pins are still up on my Etsy shop, they do not move like pancakes...to be exact they don't sell at all.  This has taught me that I may not pursue jewelry in the future beyond gifts for family and friends.

The good news to come is still to come.  The most I can say is the T's are crossed and the i's are dotted, once I am contractually allowed I will be sure to share probably both here and over on twitter.  So stay tuned! :-)

Speaking of twitter...No, no-one pushed me off/out as mentioned in a threaded post over there I am not exactly neurotypical and I had picked up a bad habit or three.  I also was noticing my anxiety was going up between it and everything else in my life...so something had to go and twitter was the first choice.

I guess for now that brings everyone up to speed.

Remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel because with any luck sometime in May I should be back to posting content again!
