4-28-2025

Been a bit since I’ve posted an update, mostly because the weather has hindered things & life keeps getting in the way.
The door to the garden equipment section of the shop is up & working. Two site made doors that work together perfectly on the first attempt–what did I do wrong to achieve that??
Bought a compound miter saw to help build the shop, useful for door & roof framing.
During all the severe straight line winds of late March I had an 85 foot/26 meter tall white pine get blown over. Approximately 65 to 70 years old but roots just didn’t hold it. Took two weekends to clean it up–I have a slide show of the cleanup on my Insta here
This pic sort of gives an idea of the size of my front yard as well since the pic is from the dining room window & the tree does not reach halfway across the yard. 😳
For scale here is my tractor parked next to the downed tree–my tractor is roughly the size of a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

Lead my crew in pouring a slightly oversized concrete parking pad earlier in the month for work. It turned out as expected which apparently with former crews in the past did not happen.
Supervising two floor refinishes with one being a complete stripping of a single stage epoxy.
Wound up assaulted Friday while on the job by an owner hired contractor that did not like that we secured the property he left unlocked two weeks prior. I got a picture of his plate and van, filed a report & now St. Louis police have a warrant issued for his arrest.
Missouri has a system where you can look up someone's name versus court issues. The name hits 188 times, the first page is almost all him. If I understand the statute correctly he is looking at 10 years in jail. He fled the scene before the police arrived, & that does not look good on him in this–as I understand it. I won’t delve further into this at this time since everything is pending. I am sore, my jaw still aches where he punched me in the head. My crew was ready to cut out & dole out justice on their own–at least they have my back.
The house next to me sold last week. A young couple moved in, they seem very chill & nice. They have been homeless for a year & a half & were saving up to get a place to rent & found the house “for sale by owner” & it is cheaper than rent in the area. If they can get themselves organized they should do okay. They are young enough they could be my grandkids, & I’ve been in their place 35 years ago so I get how tough this is going to be on them.
I have two rolls of fencing & the posts to hang it between myself & the new neighbors. I’d rather concentrate on the shop entirely, but the have a little guy & dog. The dog is well behaved, but I don’t want it to start using my yard as its toilet either. As to the little guy, well he is little, my tractor & tools are big so I don’t need him getting under things–safety first.
Okay, big news is there is a woman from my high school days that we have been talking quite a bit since the "girfriend perameters" post–even my kids don’t know this yet–we were pretty serious way back then & are both divorced now. Things have sort of picked back up between us, but let’s face it we have some physical distance between us–though we have met up a few times in the last few years–we are neither acting like teenagers in this–time will tell where this ends up though.
Buttercup should be up to visit again in the next few weeks again–I told her if she consistently wears her glasses she can drive the tractor…we shall see how that is going.  She also randomly sent me a selfi the other day because she likes her new hair cut--it is now my lock screen.
For now I guess that’s it,
Maura out
