My son had a second brain tumor removed last Monday. It was roughly the size of an English Walnut (1.5 in x 1.25 in or 38 mm by 32 mm). There is a certain irony that my size reference also looks like a brain. The first tumor was removed almost exactly two years ago via laser ablation, but it was 13 mm by 8 mm and roughly flat. In both cases his head had to be secured via surgical halo, the laser was three tiny holes and micro surgical, this one required a three inch incision (75 mm) just above his forehead, and opening a cranial window, then physical removal.
The surgery went as planned, he spent two and a half days in intensive care and came home Wednesday 😳 He's doing good, tires easily, no signs of ancillary damage, but for obvious reasons this was terrifying for all of us.
During all of this we picked up three new technicians at work, a young guy who paints and is willing to learn more and two experienced guys. Takes some pressure off me, but creates other pressures as I have to keep up with both more crew and with finding them busy work.
I'm sure everyone has noticed the influx of short stories over the last few months, they have been my escape of late. Worlds where I have full control over them and allow me to put space between my messed up world and the thoughts in my head. The shorts you get to see though are just bits compared to some of the more massive works that have also found there way back into my head.
Solitary Non-confinement is now in the hands of the proof reader, looking for messed up commas, wrong words, etc before it goes to print. I need to work on my audio recording of it while the proofreader revues it, but the brain power has been missing to perform the task.
For now that's it.
