Been a bit weird here since my last post:
The day after the last post went live my son went back into the hospital due to a not unexpected infection; today is day 12 now and he may be out tomorrow. I wondered when he was first in why he was sent home so quick, but like everything anymore pushing people through a system is kind of the norm. He is doing really well, his since of humor is back so that is good.
Last Friday I left my job. On a fairly clockwork basis my boss (the company owner) would start complaining about labor cost overruns on units and typically would have me on a phone call from 20 mins to an hour about them. Calls were always the same, just keep repeating the same line "I don't understand..." and then not listen to the why. He did this on Thursday, then after I gave him a detailed breakdown on what was left he repeated it on Friday while I was on site with my second in command. He thinks hanging a 12 by 12 (13.4 sq meters) can be hung, taped, mudded, and painted in less than 24 man hours with one person working alone...yeah that can't happen. He also felt that all of the painting in the entire unit should not have taken one tech more than 24 man hours (mind you the last person to paint one took 60 and they were a professional painting contractor.) I told him next time we have one of these issues I want him on the crew doing the work to show us how. He tried to deflect with "that is not where I am going" I asked if he had ever painted one of these units? Again with deflection and arguing while raising his voice and escalating his tone; I told him to "shut up, and answer my question." He then told me to come to his house to finish this and hung up on me. I did not go to his house, I left, I quit, told my crew I was no longer their boss and why.
So now I am busy looking for a new job, hoping to get out of maintenance entirely, maybe shift to remote work if possible. Some of the remote work sites are subscription based and I don't have that kind of money laying around. I do have two applications for different roles filed with a major local employer and am looking at others in the area. It shouldn't take too long to find something though. Keep some prayers going though as I don't have enough in savings to float very long.
While I am in between things I may do some more photography, work on some writing and so forth.
Maura out.
